While we carry on with our hectic lives, our natural environment is suffering from various issues including climate change, global warming, carbon emissions, sea level rise, arctic melt, permafrost melt, plastic pollution, natural disasters, cyclones, hurricanes, floods, mass extinction of millions of species, ocean acidity, deforestation, food crisis and water crisis.
There is no specific part of the world that will suffer the wrath of our own doings – everyone residing on this planet will have to face the consequences sooner or later. Most of our resources are getting depleted while the world population is growing in huge numbers.
Millions of species are affected by the current state of the environment, and many of them face the danger of extinction.
The data used in the video has been provided by the most credible organizations around the world, including United Nations, NASA, FAO, World Resource Institute, NOAA, UK Government, Forbes, National Geographic, BBC, Livescience, New York Times, WWF, Surfers Against Sewage, Conservation.org, World Bank, IPBES, Smithsonian, Cornell and others.
The only solution to these problems is adapting to a sustainable lifestyle as soon as possible. There are many solutions available these days, the frontrunner being renewable energy. This includes solar energy – solar photovoltaic panels and solar devices. Also wind energy, electric, hybrid, thermal solar, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, ocean energy, hydrogen or fuel cells.
People need to make some very basic changes in lifestyle, such as reducing dependency on industry, using more sustainable transportation, consuming less, minimizing wastage and optimizing the available resources.
While the theme of World Environment Day 2018 was plastic pollution, the theme of World Environment Day 2019 is Air Pollution. That said, the environment problems right now are so many and so difficult to contain, working on every little thing possible is the call of the hour.
